Health and Social Care Qualifications

We offer Levels 2, 3 and 5 Advanced Practice and Level 5 Management NVQ/QCF Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care.

Level 2 & 3 (NVQ/QCF) Health & Social Care Apprenticeship Frameworks

Levels 2 and 3 are available to individuals currently in suitable job roles on a fully funded basis. Upon completing the framework of the Apprenticeship, candidates will be rewarded with a number of certificates, including:

  • City & Guilds Level 2 or Level 3 QCF Diploma in Health & Social Care
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care
  • Essential Skills: Communication Level 2
  • Essential Skills: Application of Number Level 1 (upskilled to Level 2)

In order to acquire the Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care, candidates need to complete the following compulsory NVQ level 2 Health and Social Care units (201 – 209):

  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
  • Introduction to communication in health and social care
  • Introduction to personal development in health and social care
  • Introduction to equality and inclusion in health and social care
  • Introduction to duty of care in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Implement person centred approaches in health and social care (unit 207 health and social care)
  • Handle information in health and social care settings
  • Plus mandatory Group B unit for Wales: Introductory awareness of sensory loss

As well as a selection of optional ‘pathway’ units aligned with their employment. *Level 2 candidates can also take up Level 3 units aligned with their career path if they wish.

The following NVQ/QCF level 3 Health and Social Care mandatory units (205, 206, 301 – 307) are required for achieving the Level 3 Diploma:

  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Promote communication in health & social care
  • Engage in personal development in health & social care
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health & social care
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health & social care settings
  • Promote person centred approaches in health & social Care
  • Promote and implement health and safety in health & social care
  • Promote good practice in handling information in health & social care settings
  • Plus mandatory Group B unit for Wales: Understand sensory loss

Similarly to Level 2, candidates need to select ‘pathway’ optional units in line with their job roles to complete the Level 3 framework. There are many pathways that can be taken depending on the chosen career path.

Level 5 (NVQ/QCF) Health & Social Care Apprenticeship Framework

The level 5 programme is also fully funded for people from appropriate career paths. Having completed the Apprenticeship, trainees will receive the following accreditations:

  • City & Guilds Level 5 QCF Diploma in Health & Social Care
  • Essential Skills: Communication Level 3
  • Level 5 Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care
  • Essential Skills: Application of Number Level 2

The list of QCF/NVQ level 5 Health and Social Care mandatory units which candidates need to complete depends on the pathway they’ve chosen to follow. There are 3 different Level 5 Health and Social Care qualifications available depending on an individual’s job role: Advanced Practice, Adult Management, and Residential Management.

What is the Health and Social Care Apprenticeship timeframe?

While it is fully dependent on motivation and commitment how long it takes trainees to complete the apprenticeship, the required tasks for Level 2 or 3 usually take about a year, while a Level 5 qualification is completed within 15 months. Throughout the entire course of your qualification you’ll also be provided with all the support you need by our assessors.
