A Childcare Apprenticeship is a great opportunity to combine on-the-job learning with gaining internationally recognised qualifications, all while earning money.

What is a Childcare Apprenticeship?

The perfect route to a career in the industry, a Childcare Apprenticeship is fully funded by the government and available to anyone over the age of 16.

The training focuses on providing a balance between personal development and experience in the working world, allowing you to get a feeling of how things work under the supervision of qualified professionals.

As part of your Childcare Apprenticeship, you will be placed in a full-time work setting, such as a nursery, where you can study for your qualification and gain hands-on experience under the guidance of one of our high quality assessors.

What you will get from a Childcare Apprenticeship?

Depending on your current qualifications are and where you want to take your career, there’s two pathways available:

Level 2 Childcare Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 2 QCF Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development
  • Level 2 Apprenticeship in Children’s Care, Learning and Development
  • Essential Skills: Communication Level 2
  • Essential Skills: Application of Number Level 1

Level 3 Childcare Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 2 QCF Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning & Development
  • Essential Skills: Communication Level 2
  • Essential Skills: Application of Number Level 2
  • Level 2 Apprenticeship in Children’s Care, Learning & Development

Level 5 Childcare Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 5 QCF Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning & Development
  • Essential Skills: Communication Level 3
  • Essential Skills: Application of Number Level 2
  • Level 5 Apprenticeship in Children’s Care, Learning & Development

The timeframes for completing the qualifications can vary between individual learners. Broadly speaking, earning a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification usually takes about a year, while you can complete Level 5 within 15 months.

You’ve completed a Childcare Apprenticeship. What’s next?

Completing the Level 2 qualification enables you to become a fully qualified nursery worker, or progress to a higher level Childcare Apprenticeship. The more advanced pathways (Level 3 and Level 5) come with a competitive salary and will put you in the ideal position to apply for more senior roles once you’ve completed the qualification.

With a Childcare Apprenticeship qualification, you have a choice of job roles: from a playgroup assistant or early years’ worker to administrative and training positions within the industry. Depending on the pathway you choose, you can also work as a nursery assistant (Level 2), nursery manager or room leader (Level 3 & 5).
