As Wales works toward its net zero 2050 target, organisations are under increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprint. Educ8 Training’s fully funded Energy and Carbon Management Apprenticeship is helping businesses meet this challenge by equipping employees with the skills, knowledge and confidence to drive meaningful environmental change.
During Wales Climate Week, we spoke to one of our Trainer Coaches, Suzanne Evans, about the importance of energy and carbon management training. Here’s what she shared.
Supporting organisations to become more sustainable
Educ8 Training’s Energy and Carbon Management Apprenticeship helps employers across Wales to:
- Improve environmental sustainability and reduce carbon emissions
- Embed greener behaviours across teams
- Strengthen tender and grant applications by demonstrating sustainability actions
- Build internal expertise to support decarbonisation plans
Learners explore key legislation such as the Climate Change Act, Environment (Wales) Act, and the Well-being of Future Generations Act, giving them the foundation to influence decisions and champion sustainable practices within their organisation.
Learner spotlight: Michelle Evans, Autism Life Centres CIC
Role: Admin & Grants Officer
Michelle joined the Energy and Carbon Management Apprenticeship to better understand how her organisation could reduce its environmental impact. Since then, she has taken proactive steps to encourage greener choices among staff, including:
- Promoting simple daily changes such as switching off lights
- Monitoring transport data and introducing recommendations such as car sharing and increased use of public transport
- Encouraging walking initiatives to reduce emissions and boost wellbeing
- Sharing best practice through her local authority’s climate change steering group
Her work has helped Autism Life Centres CIC reduce emissions and build a stronger culture of sustainability across the organisation.
“The apprenticeship has given me the confidence and understanding to influence decisions and support change in our organisation.”
