Starting an apprenticeship is an exciting step towards achieving your goals and developing valuable skills for your future. While every learner’s journey is unique, there are several key stages you’ll experience throughout your programme. Here’s what you can expect.

Welcome & Induction

Your apprenticeship journey begins with an induction, designed to help you get off to the best possible start.

During this stage, you’ll:

  • Discover our online learning platform, Moodle, and learn how to access your learning materials and resources.
  • Meet your trainer coach, who will support you throughout your programme.
  • Review your qualification and learning plan.
  • Discuss any optional units available to you and decide which are most relevant to your role and career goals.
  • Learn about the support available to help you succeed.

This is also an opportunity to ask questions and ensure you feel confident about the journey ahead.

Learning & Development

As a work-based learning apprentice, you’ll spend time developing your knowledge, skills and behaviours through a combination of workplace learning and independent study.

Throughout your programme, you’ll:

  • Complete learning activities and coursework during your self-study time.
  • Apply your learning in the workplace.
  • Build evidence of your progress and achievements.
  • Attend regular reviews and coaching sessions with your trainer coach.

Remember, you’re never learning alone. If you have questions or need support, don’t hesitate to contact your trainer coach, who are there to help you every step of the way.

Assessments

As you progress through your apprenticeship, you’ll complete a range of assessments designed to demonstrate your knowledge and competence.

Depending on your qualification, these could include:

  • Knowledge assessments
  • Professional discussions
  • Projects and assignments
  • Observations in the workplace
  • Exams or controlled assessments

Your Trainer Coach will help you prepare for each assessment; ensure you understand what’s expected and support you in booking any required assessment dates.

Progress Reviews

Regular reviews are an important part of apprenticeships funded through the Welsh Government’s work-based learning programme.

These reviews provide an opportunity to:

  • Celebrate your achievements and progress.
  • Discuss your development with your employer and trainer coach.
  • Identify any support you may need.
  • Set goals and targets for the next stage of your learning journey.

They’re a valuable way to ensure you’re staying on track and getting the most from your apprenticeship.

Completion & Achievement

Congratulations, you’ve done it!

Once you’ve successfully completed all aspects of your apprenticeship and met the requirements of your qualification, you’ll achieve your apprenticeship and receive your certificate.

Completing an apprenticeship is a fantastic achievement that demonstrates your commitment to learning, professional development and career progression.
