Re-engaging learners through Educ8 Training

Janine Morgan-Jenkins, Family Liaison Officer at Bedwas School, has seen first-hand how the Elev8 Hair & Beauty course delivered by Educ8 Training can transform students’ relationship with education.

For learners who often feel disconnected from traditional academic subjects, this programme has provided a powerful new sense of purpose.

“They’re perhaps not the most interested in school academic subjects, but they really enjoyed this course,” Janine explains.

That enjoyment quickly translated into something far more significant – improved attendance and renewed engagement.

Students who had previously struggled to attend school began showing up consistently, motivated by the opportunity to take part in something they genuinely cared about.

A course students look forward to

According to Janine, the course became a highlight of the week.

“They looked forward to the Thursday,” she says. “It was like a treat… something to look forward to.”

This sense of anticipation played a crucial role in shifting mindsets. Instead of viewing school as a challenge, students began to associate it with creativity, achievement and enjoyment.

Real progress through practical learning

The impact extended beyond attendance. With increased engagement came noticeable progress in skills and confidence.

Janine recalls a student who found the basics challenging at first. “One student struggled to section hair when he first came in… and when he left, you should have seen his work, it was phenomenal,” she said.

This transformation highlights what can happen when students are given the right environment to thrive – one that values practical ability and personal interest.

Building confidence and teamwork

The course also fostered important life skills. Students collaborated, supported one another, and built stronger social connections.

“It got them to work together… not just the hairdressing, it’s the teamwork,” Janine notes.

For many learners, this type of hands-on, inclusive experience made education feel accessible and rewarding again.

Inspiring future pathways

Perhaps most importantly, the Elev8 Hair & Beauty course has opened students’ eyes to future possibilities. Some are now considering careers in the industry, while others are exploring different pathways within the sector. What began as a weekly session has sparked ambition and direction.

Empowering future talent

For Janine, the message is clear – when students are engaged in learning that resonates with them, everything changes. Attendance improves, confidence grows, and potential is unlocked.

The Elev8 programme is not just about teaching hair and beauty skills – it’s about re-engaging young people with education and empowering them to see a future they can be excited about.
