Caring for children during the Covid pandemic

Kayleigh Edwards is a qualified childminder from Rhondda who setup her own business after completing her childminding qualification with Educ8Training and Pacey.

She tells us how her business has helped parents and children through the Covid pandemic.

It’s important I have the latest skills

I enrolled on the Level 3 Diploma for Children’s Care Learning andDevelopment in 2017. I am now studying the Level 5 Diploma in ChildcareLearning and Development. It’s important I keep up to date with my training and know the latest skills so I can fully support the children in my care.

During Covid I provided a happy space for children

Despite the challenges of Covid I’m on track to complete my second qualification with Educ8. I’ve stayed open throughout the pandemic to offer childcare for key workers – it was important to me that I supported them through such a difficult time. During Covid I provided a happy and enjoyable space for the children using a child centred approach. I even home schooled the children of school age to ensure they didn’t fall behind.

We love learning Welsh and being outdoors

I’m dedicated to the children I care for – I even have their work on display boards in my living room. I am a fluent Welsh speaker and promote the Welsh language. I use songs and rhymes to make learning Welsh fun. I’m passionate about the outdoors and love to take my learning outside by planning regular trips, outings, and activities.
