For Mon Motors, investing in its people is an important part of building a strong, capable and engaged workforce.
As the business has grown, so too have its training and development needs, particularly for colleagues stepping into team leadership positions and taking on greater responsibility.
Working with Educ8 Training, Mon Motors has supported team leaders across the business to undertake the Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification, giving them the opportunity to develop their leadership skills alongside their existing roles.
For Jason Borgden, Group Trainer and Performance Coach at Mon Motors, the programme is helping give colleagues the knowledge, confidence and practical tools they need to become effective leaders.
Giving emerging leaders the tools to succeed
Mon Motors has a strong focus on developing its own talent, recognising the value of giving employees the opportunity to progress within the business.
Through the Level 3 Leadership qualification, team leaders are developing their understanding of the principles and practices that underpin effective leadership, including team motivation, performance management and goal setting.
Jason explains:
‘We have great people who have grown in their role and responsibility in the business. The leadership course gives them some of the underpinning tools and models that support effective leadership of a team, motivation, performance management and goal setting.’
Rather than providing a one-size-fits-all approach, the programme is also helping learners develop their own approach to leadership.
‘It helps them develop their own leadership style and make better decisions about how to build a team and get the best from them,’ Jason adds.
This combination of recognised training and practical workplace development means learners can apply what they are learning directly to the challenges they face in their day-to-day roles.
Building confidence in future leaders
For Mon Motors, the benefits of leadership development extend beyond the individual learner.
Giving team leaders the opportunity to gain a formal qualification has helped the business build confidence in their ability to take on greater responsibility.
Jason says:
‘It has given us confidence that our team leaders are better qualified and capable in taking on this extra responsibility.’
The business believes this investment in leadership capability can contribute to happier, more productive teams, while also supporting employee retention.
A training partnership built around the learner
One of the key strengths of Mon Motors’ experience with Educ8 Training has been the collaborative approach to delivery.
Rather than simply providing a standard programme, we worked with Mon Motors to ensure the learning was relevant to the people undertaking it and the challenges they face in their roles.
Jason says:
‘Their approach has been really focused around our people and the challenges that they face. We worked together to ensure that the syllabus was relevant to our learners.’
This employer-focused approach is particularly valuable for employees who are balancing leadership responsibilities with their existing roles.
By connecting the qualification to real workplace situations, learners can develop skills that have immediate relevance to their teams, their colleagues and the wider business.
Looking ahead: continuing to invest in skills
Mon Motors’ work with Educ8 Training demonstrates how leadership apprenticeships can support both individual development and wider business objectives.
By giving existing employees the opportunity to gain a recognised leadership qualification, Mon Motors is helping its team leaders build the confidence, knowledge and practical skills needed to take their next steps.
For Educ8 Training, the partnership also highlights the importance of working closely with employers to ensure apprenticeship programmes are relevant, practical and focused on the needs of their people.
As Mon Motors continues to grow and develop its workforce, its investment in leadership development is helping create a stronger pipeline of capable, confident leaders from within the business.
